'Panthalassa' The Music of Miles Davis 1969-1974

Panthalassa
The Music of Miles Davis 1969-1974 Reconstruction & Mix Translation by Bill Laswell
I posted this album over at Hearwax's place in early April, but he seems to have closed his doors for the moment, with all links gone. Recently, some folk have made enquiries about this album & I thought I may have kept the links. Well quite amazingly I did.

Panthalassa consists of four tracks each seamlessly mixing together various Davis classics. Whilst, I'm not a mega fan of this era of Miles, this album should certainly appeal to those who like his 70's music. All relatively chilled out tracks, including some never before heard extended themes.

You've gotta give Bill his dues for tackling this difficult period in Davis' long career. Far from a desecration, Laswell's reconstructions bring Miles up to the minute; trippy acid jazz ensures this album to be quite an excellent listen. Buy this album for a low price here.

Now to make this session complete MiltonTheMonster has kindly shared from his large collection of Laswell & other related works the Remixes ep @320kbps. The p/w for just this one is: funky

***And for those of you who never read the comments, that's a shame. However, as a heads-up for you Mr Dub Dentist has kindly shared something special by one of NZ's finest electro dub artists Pitch Black. Please see the comments section here for all the necessary details, including where to purchase. And have a heart, spare a moment to thank Mr Dub D for bringing this new music for 'our' aural experience!

Thanks a lot for sharing this, Moog. I'm going to be posting a Miles show from 1970 soon. Question, what is the p/w for the first link?

Follow-Up: DOH!! I found the p/w right after submitting my comment above. Thanks again, I'm a big fan of Miles and Laswell. This should be cool....

There's a Laswell thing goin' on! Sly and Robbie's 'Language Barrier' is my favourite :-)

Moog, my contact details now on my 'About The Captain' page. I do approve my comments as you so rightly guessed.. emails attached to comments go to my PC and nowhere else.

No probs Pete & good to hear you sorted out the p/w difficulty yourself.

OK thank you Cap - I'm with you!

As for the Laswell thing, I was trying to give it a break, but then thought I'd re-hash this 'cause the link can no longer be found over at hearwax's place.

Cheers.

Laswell has a knack of "treating"these tracks and not quite "remixing" them, keeping them fairly faithful to the originals. As a result,Vol.2.seems to pale in comparison.
Great listening album whether or not you are a fan of Miles or Laswell!!

Interesting thoughts Dub D - thanx. I'm yet to hear the remixes, so cannot comment one way or the other. However, I hear what you're saying & it does make sense!

Hey 'anon' who likes The Necks, I do have a few more by them. I don't think I'll be posting any of them in the very near future, but I just can't say exactly. It kind of amazes me where some of these posts lead & you never know they may come around once again soon for various reasons e.g the right mood, a band member is connected with another post etc.

Thanks for your positive comments!

I'm sorry cestlamerde...I had no idea. I wasn't really following what was going on with this set, 'cause basically I posted Panthalassa at hearwax's place in Early April, so I just wasn't looking out for this kind of repeat.

Also as The Remixes were a 'share' from Milton, it just kinda added to the post to make that set complete.

Sorry mate, as a general rule I do kind of look out for these type of things. :)

Anyhow, thank you for the pointer to the Santana remixes, I have that one too & the Bob Marley one aswell. However, for people who read the comments they shall find a nice surprise.

Cheers!

Hello there Lucky Fellow...thanks to you & have stopped by your place already. Will be back to get it; I have to wait if I want another r/s d'load.

As for Funkadelic well what can I say; they are one of my all time favs. I have heaps of their stuff on vinyl (always luved the album covers), but I'm sure there are probably loads of folk who do not really know them, although with George Clinton touring a bit the world over the past number of years they are probably more known than they once were esp by the 'youger' set.

Still everybody needs to have a funkn' good time at least some of their life. :)

It's been a while since I've listened to this one, gonna have to fire it up again. Bill did a bang up job with those tapes. A great primer into Miles' most underappreciated period that started with "In A Silent Way" ( http://daslob.blogspot.com/2006/07/from-miles-files-complete-in-silent.html ) on through "Agharta". Thanks for posting this!
