Jim O'Rourke 'Terminal Pharmacy'
Jim O'RourkeTerminacy Pharmacy (Tz 7011)
Highly prolific Chicago guitar improviser, keyboardist, tape manipulator, composer and producer Jim O'Rourke is rather conveniently known in the rock world as a core member of, first, Gastr del Sol and more recently Sonic Youth, but he has also recorded solo, been involved in Red Krayola, written for the Kronos Quartet, produced Faust, 'got together 'with Henry Kaiser and K.K. Null and worked or had a hand in many other projects (too many to mention).
Gentle rattles, footsteps, atonal notes emplying a number of cellists & accordian players, but still not enough to encourage those not used to this kind of 'music' to feel that very much is being played. Some kinda fine 'textural' moments here, but I think he's done better since. What do you think?

This album should be bought from the Tzadik label here or otherwise ordered via a 'good' music outlet.

Hi
inviting you see my new blog at:
http://musenderon.blogspot.com
Yes, thank you senserson...I have been very busy over this past week & have had little time for not only my blog, but to check on others, including friends I've known for some time.
I hope you understand, I will visit sometime soon.
Cheers!
Hey MoogPower!
I'm doing the same - taking a rest, visit kind spirits like you, tell them how I appreciate what they do, etc. I really like your posts, -- but what I'm always eager to read are your comments, here and everywhere. You're a true charming character, honest and kind as heaven - I'll stop it now, just wanna tell you that I like the way how you behave in other blogs! full-stop.
as you don't have time now, maybe some time later you can walk over to dear old orang lucky, and give sonny sharrock a warm kindred ear ...
"Dank" (i quote YOU!), orang ;)
G'day (Gidday -as pronounced by Aussies),
Mr Lucky...now I must say that I take this as a real compliment (coming especially from you) & am somewhat stuck for words by way of response.
I do try & see this 'thingy' (as for all of us) as a sort of world-wide medium where we can all share/talk about etc our musical passion.
I am not really interested in just d'loading music for the sake of it. However, I am interested in MEETING new people, chatting, LEARNING about new artists, HEARING other peoples views etc.
I have felt this past week or so, I have not been able to fulfill this role - I've hardly had the time to put together a 'proper' post, let alone visit 'friends' places & see what's been going on in their world. And I feel somewhat guilty!
Will head by your world of Orang & check out the delectable Sonny S treat you have on offer sometime in the upcoming few days.
This weekend may not be as busy as usual as my son has now finished his sporting committment for this season, so I hope I'll have more time on Saturday, where otherwise it's basically booked out especially if we have visitors over in the evening or head out oursleves.
Gracias, demasiado bueno Herr M.
(How's that for a new kind of Dank?) *lol*
Yes, MoogPower, I think there is not much music on this cd; always when I listen to it I think after a while, hey herr Ärmel, time for some music and then I walk to the cd player and I'm wonder that there is the 'terminal pharmacy' cd playing.
beautiful weekend
herr Ärmel
You're making me laugh now herr Ärmel, but I do not disagree with you as that is exactly the same sort of thing I do. :)
Damn, I've put the CD back in the rack, but I'm quite sure trk 1 was supposed to be two yrs in the making & then the title trk has loads of musicians - amazing stuff for so little.
I think he was really working on the theory that 'less is more'!
You too have a fine weekend,
Adios.
Jim O'Rourke - "Terminal Pharmacy" (1995)
Tracks :
1 Cede 41:32
2 Untitled :57
3 Terminal Pharmacy 8:21
Release : 1995 CD Tzadik 7011
Review by Joslyn Layne (AMG)
With Terminal Pharmacy, Jim O'Rourke creates a soundscape so calm and minimal that some people, lacking patience for the seeming formlessness, could do entirely without it, while others will find themselves repeatedly putting it in their CD player at home, work, or wherever they need warmth dispersed throughout the air. Seeping steadily from the edge of silence comes crackles, thin fuzz, and extended string tones. Less narrative than what "electro-acoustic" usually refers to, "Cede" hums at the back of your mind. Given almost a minute of silence in between, the second piece then begins; sounding like a very quiet improvisation, the instruments whisper bowed rounds, a conversation in tininess that grows bolder at moments.
Thank you, once more for the music...
Thank you once again Dimitris - I was just returning to check over messages, but had in mind to add the tracks in here. I thought that I'd forgotten about this. :)
If you like this sort of music I'd suggest you try Sylvain Chauveau 'Des Plumes Dans La Tête' a little lower down the page.... A Silver Mt.Zion 'He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corners of Our Rooms'....The Rachel's posted a month earlier, Dirty Three etc.
Best to you,
Ciao!
... I love A Silver Mt.Zion and most of the constellation groups, Dirty Three are also a favor of mine, saw them live here in Greece and they are a band to hear if you are into Nick Cave... I will now check Sylvain Chauveau :-)
Brilliant Dimitirs...So pleased to hear this. :)
I have known Warren (violin, Dirty Three) for many yrs now!
You should probably check out my latest post as you are obviously into this 'post-rock' kind of sound.
Haah & I've I've made sure I've included the tracklist before you've had a chance. *lol* But that's cool all help is appreciated.
Cheers.
