Boys Next Door
Live Nov, Sydney '79
Skylark you asked for it...Some live Boys Next Door. (Quite an odd set for those into 'Door, Door').
A bit of a shame that it's not a Melbourne gig , given that they are Melbourne products, but unless I can get my cassettes into the digital world this is gonna have to suffice for the time being!
Track List:
- Let's talk about art
- After a fashion
- Running Goat
- Death by drowning
- The cracked portrait
- A catholic skin
- Aka
- Shivers
- The friend catcher
- Safehouse
- Scatterbrain
- Guilt Parade
- The hair shirt

****Skylark has generously upped some additional tracks that are believed to have come from the same live Boys Next Door gig. They include: Brave Exhibition, The Red Clock, Somebody's Watching Me, plus more. They can be found here:

OMG I can't wait to get home and d/l this set, thank you so much for going to all that effort MoogPower. You're right, this appears to be right on the border between BND & BP. I'm really stretching my memory, but I'm sure the Melbourne show I referred to is very similar but has a couple more Door Door tracks .. it definitely has Brave Exhibitions. Speaking of gigs, I remember seeing New Order & The Saints on the same bill at the Astor. That was an amazing night and as much as I love New Order, I recall that The Saints blew them off the stage. I used to frequent Missing Link too and buy one or two independent singles a week, stuff like Primitive Calculators, Essendon Airport, Young Modern, Chosen Few, The Leftovers, The Scientists, ↑→↑, The Thought Criminals .. ahh the list goes on and they're all still gathering dust in my study. ps. from what I remember, Japanese Comix were a little quirky like Serious Young Insects .. but great fun at the time (Do the Helicopter baby .. rotor rotor) lol!
btw, I would be willing to transfer cassettes onto cd for you if you were able to make a copy of the cassette and send them to me (I wouldn't want you posting originals). I could send the tape and cd back to you for posting here .. just a thought :)
G'day skylark...just out of interest the other BND live that I have on cassette, was a limited edition thing they actually put out on cassette only - was not from radio or gig. (Just thought I'd mention that here). :)
Thank you for the kind offer - just to clarify you mean me to make a copy & send to you for digital transfer?
That's the problem - the old harmon kardon casstte player has had it - too risky to try. Maybe I can find some other people about here who have a working cassette deck. I'll look into it. Cheers!
Hey...Serious Young Insects - sheez you've got a better memory than I; never have remembered those guys!
Hmmmm, you're stretching my memory, but I think I was at that New Order gig. I seem to recall The Saints supporting them, but it's too vague to be sure.
Ciao
Yep, I was thinking that if one of your friends had one of those systems with 2 cassette drives that were popular for a while, they could dub a copy (I know you lose a little quality along the way, but it's better than nothing). The reasoning behind this was that you could send me the copy for me to transfer to cd and send back to you. I wouldn't ask you to send the original in case something went wrong (ie. Aust. Post lost or damaged it). Anyway, the offer stands but I don't want to complicate your life lol. I'll make a cd of my show (warts and all) and when it's ready (could take a while) I'll get in touch and see if you want a copy. Btw, I think I may have that "official" BND cassette .. is it a really early gig, with "These Boots Are Made For Walking"??
Yep that's the one - recorded by 3SW (Aug 1977)...also has Blitzreig Bop, I put a spell on you, gloria etc
Quality not so great, more for historical value I suppose!
ok, I have that cassette. I'm really keen to check out the show you posted .. i'm starting to wonder if it's the same show that i've got minus a track or two .. do you know if that is the whole set?
G'day skylark,
This is supposed to be the whole set of that Sydeny gig.
If you want the full track list of the Aug '77 cassette I can provide that.
Cheers!
Cave as a young lad. really a schoolboy with no background in the throat.
but he made that very well up with the Birthday party, for me his best time.
the agression i love the boy there!
i saw his last gig here in Europe.
he broke the whole stage, fokin great.
who wants to die!
Hee hee...Korpus you are some dude!!!
I like what you've said here - so true.
I've followed his career & have been a fan all along the way. There have been some times with the Bad Seeds that I haven't really gotten into, but overall what a performer. (Have seen him many, many times).
Gracias.
I think I've solved my mystery MoogPower. Our two shows are from the same source (I can tell because of the banter between songs), but mine has 5 extra tracks .. Brave Exhibitions, Faint Heart, The Red Clock, Somebody's Watching Me and one track I can't remember the name of. I never realised it was a Sydney show until now. Your version is better quality because mine was taped off the radio on a crackly night which made some tracks unlistenable . At the time I edited out a lot of the gaps between songs and cut some of the worst songs because of this problem. I also changed the running order for some strange reason. Anyway, I'm in the process of cutting a cd of my version and will happily let you have the 5 missing tracks if you're interested.
Great skylark thanx...am definintely interested esp b/c of Somebody's Watching Me
Hi again. Those songs are now online. Let me know what you think. This is my first upload so I hope it works ok .. finger crossed.

oops, almost forgot, I used your password ..
Oh wow...thank you skylark. As mentioned in comments on an above post I've been very busy for the last few days & today is my sons b'day so have basically not been able to get online.
Will get this sometime tomorrow & add to this post!
Looking forward to this - really appreciated.
Cheers!
No problemo MoogPower. It's nice to see your son shares his birthday with at least one really important person .. me!! lol :) I took my 11 yr-old son to his first Indian restaurant to celebrate mine .. we had a ball.
Aaah very nice skylark...we had Chinese last night, but he's rather adventurous being into Asian food of all kinds, Greek & Middle Eastern generally, Indian etc.
Has anyone listened to the extra tracks?? They sound great to me but that's because I am so familiar with them, having played them to death .. just curious what the wider public thinks :)
I've got 'em...yet to listen properly to be honest. Just gonna eat something will let you know soonish!
Hey skylark...Quality is xclnt, I really am pleasantly surprised, not b/c I doubted your ability more due to your description.
Sorry 'bout my delayed reply here...my mouse (cordless) ran out of batteries & my entire puter stalled (wouldn't even let me reboot via usual methods). Finally had to cut power, lost my completed U-Roy upload & had to restart system via 'last known good setting.' Oh well...these things happens!
Sheez...see what you mean 'bout the last track. I don't recognise it really either. Gonna have to look over my records or other material to confirm its name.
Again...skylark I really appreciate your efforts here. I'm sure some others will too, but don't expect too much response; it just seems to be the way things go. E.G. You can have nearly 200 d'loads but only get 2 or so responses.
It's people such as yourself who not only add comments, but help out with personal recordings that make this genuinely worthwhile.
I see it about sharing in ones passion, other merely a grab-bag. Whilst it is probably not an appropriate place to comment here, I have sensed for a number of years now that those brought up on CD's alone have never really experienced what it means to take care of records, hence music is more of a disposable item.
Whilst I understand that I'm more passionate about music than most of my peers, there is no longer the need to treasure a record & really look after it. I think there is just a different mind-set these days.
It's quite possible the major companies play a part in this with hyped up mass marketing etc but I feel that music these days reflects much of society in that many items are disposable - they are not designed to last; just look around 'your' house!
Don't get me wrong others who may read this as I am not casting dispersions on you liking the music, more in the way it is regarded. If you think I am wrong here, please do not hesitiate & tell me what you think.
Cheers!
This is where I eventually found the title for that track MoogPower:

I'm now throughly convinced that everything you could ever want is on the net lol :)
I tend to agree with your thoughts btw, and I'll make more comment shortly.
Interesting link - thanx skylark. Also funny seeing some of the venues. The tiger Lounge stands out for me amongst that list - not b/c I saw BND there, but heaps of other bands.
Ciao.
Hi there, I was surfing the internet and I found your blog. I like the way how this all works.
I'll come by again.
Many thanks,
